WHAT TO KNOW:

PLR will be accepting nonfiction, personal essays for a special section, "The Book That Changed Your Life" in the Fall/Winter 2010 issue.

Guidelines: Submit one essay of up to 1500 words about one book that changed your life and/or brought you to the love of literature and writing. We are looking for unexpected choices (Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Future Dictionary of America) alongside more traditional ones (The Great Gatsby, The Bell Jar). Be funny, serious, sorrowful, irreverent. Surprise us. Delight us.

Submissions are limited to writers who have published (or have forthcoming in 2010) at least one book of poetry or prose. We are not trying to be wholly exclusive in our nonfiction call for submissions, but we are wanting work that can discuss a somewhat moderate career in letters in regards to a book that started the whole shebang. We feel that while books change everyone in some way, we want to provide a space for more seasoned writers to bring their experience and insight to younger writers or those at the cusp of their writing life/career.

Essays must be submitted during the following reading period: July 10-Sept. 1, 2010 via email (.doc or .rtf attachment only). Please include a short cover letter listing contact information, publication credits, etc. Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will go unread and unanswered. Expect a response within 4 weeks of submission.

Note: 4-6 essays will be accepted for publication, each receiving a $25 honorarium.

Please note that our submission deadline has changed. Pebble Lake Review will only accept submissions September 1 to February 1 each year. We will also only accept submissions via email. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will go unread and unanswered. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Now in our 6th year, Pebble Lake Review continues to work to bring our readers the best in poetry, fiction, nonfiction and reviews. Questions may be directed to Amanda Auchter, Editor at submissions@pebblelakereview.com.
